Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism (LKYFB)
Greetings from the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism (LKYFB)!
Each year, LKYFB will organise the LKYFB Community Series programme as part of our outreach efforts, with the aim of helping parents nurture the love for Mother Tongue languages (MTLs) in their children. The Community Series programme aims to equip parents/caregivers with skills and knowledge to support their children in the using and learning of MTLs.
This year, in commemoration of our 10th anniversary, LKYFB has lined up 3 virtual sharing sessions conducted by renowned academics and media personalities to share useful tips on raising bilingual children and creating an immersive home language environment. The sharing sessions will be useful for parents and caregivers of young children aged 0 to 6 years old, or any other parties with an interest in early childhood bilingualism. The sessions will be launched digitally on 28 August 2021 in conjunction with the launch of the Mother Tongue Languages Symposium 2021.
National Library Board
‘The Little Book Box’ is a book subscription service targeted at young readers aged four to nine, offering a broad range of genres. The selection is carefully curated by our librarians to suit children’s interests and nurture their love for reading.
With the Covid-19 pandemic, this service would make it more convenient and accessible for parents to get a variety of books for their children.
July’s subscription for ‘The Little Book Box’ service is now open for registration. To sign up for this service, please click this link / the image below or scan the QR code below.
Greetings from National Library Board!
As part of our Early READ initiative to promote reading in young children, we are pleased to provide your centre with printed copies of our ‘A Book A Day’ Reading Journal. The aim of this programme is to encourage parents to read at least one book with their child every day.
Parents are encouraged to register their child for the programme via https://go.gov.sg/abookaday or NLB Mobile app and stand a chance to win attractive prizes in a lucky draw.
National Heritage Board
“Greetings from the National Heritage board!
We are pleased to share with you that in line with the extended Home-based learning month for pre-school centres, we have put together a series of short activities for pre-schoolers to learn more about our diverse culture and heritage through selected artefacts at our museums and Heritage Institutions.”
‘Coconut Grater’ Powerpoint Slides
To kick start the series, the NHB is featuring the coconut grater from the Malay Heritage Centre this week. The activity is presented in PPT format, and when played on full screen, there is an accompanying voice over to guide pre-schoolers through the learning and activities to allow for self-directed learning and minimal parental supervision.
National University Hospital Resources on Caring for Children During COVID-19
“Greetings from the Department of Paediatric, National University Hospital (NUH).
The NUH Department of Paediatrics has put together resources in an effort to support parents and caregivers during this challenging period. Some useful information on caring for children during COVID-19 include a back to school guide to prepare children for their return to school, a guide to helping your child wear a mask, and many more. It is important for all caregivers to practise self-care as we help children navigate the changes brought about by COVID-19 as well.”
